Digitalisation at the service of installers
Digitalisation at the service of installers
The frenetic context we currently live in, where technological evolution and urgency force us to interact with an increasing number of different types of new devices, means we have less time to adapt to new things. Both at home and at work, to best manage most of the situations we face and make the best possible choices, digitalisation is one of our best allies.
The definition of digitalisation is quite vast and varied; here we’ll consider it to mean the “immediate availability of higher quantities of more precise information that can help carry out a given task faster and more correctly”.
Take for example a refrigeration technician working on a new installation or maintenance of an existing system: the printed manual provides excellent support from a technical point of view, yet is can be quite complex and demanding in terms of the time needed to study and understand it.
By moving this complexity upstream, solutions such as configuration apps become highly useful, as:
-
they allow interactive exchange of information to focus better on the user’s current problem
-
they are more self-explanatory, not being limited to a simple combination of display and icons
-
they are multilingual and therefore more accessible
One example is the IJW, where configuration and maintenance can be managed completely using the APPLICA app. The possibility to follow a configuration wizard, to choose a favourite configuration from the options in the catalogue, and to save, copy and paste the same configuration to other devices significantly flattens the learning curve when approaching this new technology.
Access to additional information, including variable graphs, temperature and alarm logs, and test mode, help technical personnel make more informed decisions in the event of system anomalies, saving significant time.
Similar benefits are also possible with the range of sensors, such as the GLD; in this case, the dedicated RILEVA TE app guarantees maximum usability during commissioning and calibration of the sensor.
When on the other hand needing to communicate with multiple devices at the same time, the situation becomes slightly more complex; in this case, a different approach is needed, with a single access point for the entire system.
Take for example a system made up of a series of UltraCella controllers that each manage a cold room: the boss local supervisor can be used to monitor all the cold rooms 24/7, query their status (operation / alarm / offline ), see the trends of the main variables, and even set parameters or send commands.
In particular, in the panel version with 7” touch display, this system represents an always-on single access point for the entire ecosystem of devices.
Exploiting the 4G connectivity included on specific models, boss can, through a remote connection, send reports and alarm notifications, both via email and the Telegram app, including extra information such as a screenshot of the temperature trend and the status of the cold room when the alarm occurred.
For both the simplest and most complex products, refrigeration technicians need to be as prepared as possible for the installation and maintenance operations. CAREL has therefore decided to offer a free learning portal, divided by topic, where refrigeration technicians can receive training on-demand on CAREL’s products and solutions, through individual videos or training courses.
To provide a response to specific problems in the field, on the other hand, tutorial videos are available, featuring detailed contents on a particular feature of a given product. These are available on the CAREL YouTube channel, and can be quickly and easily searched by product in the search bar.
To find out more, you can visit CAREL at Chillventa2024, hall 5, stand 304 and 306 and attend the two conferences:
